🔥 Greetings, Maritime Mavericks!

The tides just turned red.

In April, the United States shocked the maritime world with new USTR port fees on Chinese ships — a move designed to make Beijing pay millions every time its vessels entered U.S. ports.

Now, China has fired back.

Starting October 14, 2025, Beijing will charge American ships the same way Washington charges Chinese ones — same rules, same timeline, same escalation.

This is not coincidence. It’s choreography.

Let’s break down what China’s new retaliation really means for global shipping 👇

🔁 The Mirror Move!

📌 China’s new port fees directly copy the U.S. system — a one-for-one retaliation.

They apply to:

  • 💲 U.S.-flagged vessels

  • 🏗️ U.S.-built vessels

  • 🏢 Vessels owned by U.S. entities

  • ⚙️ Vessels operated by U.S. entities

💬 For ownership or operation, the rule applies if more than 25% of voting rights, ownership, or board seats are American.

💰 Fee Schedule per Net Ton:

  • Oct 14, 2025: ¥400 (~$56)

  • Apr 17, 2026: ¥640 (~$90)

  • Apr 17, 2027: ¥880 (~$123)

  • Apr 17, 2028: ¥1,120 (~$157)

⏱️ Charged only on the first China call per voyage, capped at 5 times a year.

💡 Beijing didn’t just respond — it replicated.
