Is Suez Back—or Just a Test?
Carriers are restoring services. The bigger capacity impact may come next.
Container traffic is returning to the Red Sea.
Capacity through Bab el-Mandeb rose 32% in the first half.
Maersk is restoring Suez routings across three different service structures.
Yet June recorded only 229 containership transits.
Before the crisis, there were 545.
And only seven ships above 16,000 TEU used the route.
The return is real.
But the transit count is not the most important signal.
The bigger question is what happens to global capacity if Suez normalization accelerates.
