More than 1,100 containerships, totalling nearly 9m TEU, are due in 2027 and 2028.
That should make carriers cautious about buying ships now.
Yet second-hand prices remain firm.
Only ~130 ships changed hands in H1/2026, down from ~200 a year earlier.
The fall was not caused by weak demand.
Many owners simply preferred strong charter income to selling.
The future fleet is large. The ships available today are not.
