Why Is HMM Buying Oil Tankers?

HMM has changed its 2030 fleet plan.

The previous target was 130 container ships and 1.55m TEU.

The new target is 166 ships—but 1.47m TEU.

That means 36 more vessels, while planned capacity falls by 80,000 TEU.

It looks like a contradiction.

Under the previous target, the simple average was around 11,900 TEU/ship.

Under the revised plan, it falls to around 8,900 TEU.

That is a reduction of roughly 26%.
